Printed Pictures
After designing my concertina and looking at the human evolution tree, I have decided that the concertina wont map out as I planned. The number of prints I would have to do is more than 5 and if I'm going to try and present an idea accurately then I would have to acknowledge human evolution is not a linear process but more of a tree with many branches. For those reasons I think that even though the book would look nice, I might adapt my ideas further. I am more and more interested in screen printing and considered doing this book as a screen print but spoke to Teresa and Ben and they recommended against it.
I went to Thought Bubble in September and really enjoyed the work of Kim Jung Gi. Below of some examples of his work
I like the use of perspective in his work, as well as the mixture between fantastical elements and the mundane or everyday.
Looking at his work I am inspired to use a similar progression of elements within the composition. Perhaps I can draw a busy landscape with clusters of ancestral species.
He also uses brush pens which are great for making screen print positives. I have been experimenting with brush pens recently and below are some examples.
The image below is a sort of adaptation of the idea I had in mind for a possible screen print
