COMIC
Was given John Constantine Hellblazer as a present by a friend. I was struck by the similarities to the idea I am working on for my comic. The blend of gritty reality - urban kind of underworld culture - murder, crime, drugs, etc. Collaborating and clashing with christian and spiritual mysticism - demons, angels, gods, spirits. This comic explores and questions some of the dilemmas raised by religion, beliefs, self understanding and contemporary human existence under the themes of Adult horror/supernatural comics.
I am hoping to achieve something similar in my comic.
The illustration and colouring of the comic adds to the mood of the stories,
High contrast -
Earthy, fire lit, and fleshy colours -
Uncertainty - Certain pages in the comic show changes in colour and lighting that ensure that the comic doesn't become a pure fantasy story and ask the viewer to question wether the comic is more of psychological horror with the idea of demons and spirits as manifestations of the uncertain human mind, rather than purely being about literal demons in the real world.
Best example of this I can think of is The Shining VS The Exorcist
